JR pursues degree and plays golf instead

The NBA double-champion returned to college to earn his degree on August 12, Asia time. According to NFL Hall of Famer Adam Schefter, JR Smith, 35, is majoring in humanities at North Carolina A&M State University. In addition, Smith applied to join the university’s golf team and is currently awaiting confirmation of his eligibility from the NCAA.


At the time JR Smith entered the NBA as a high school student, but now Smith, who did not attend college, decided to go back to college. Not only did he apply for a degree, but he also applied to join the NCAA golf team. JR Smith started playing golf 12 years ago. He believes that golf keeps him humble. All the games can be played by himself, so he doesn’t have to worry about passing, shooting or defending and can have fun.
